Staphylococcus Aureus

Type: Bacterium

Description: Staphylococcus aureus is a common bacterium that can cause various infections in humans and animals.

Natural Habitat

  • Skin โ†’ especially moist areas (armpits, groin, perineum)
  • Nasal passages โ†’ anterior nares (inside the nose) are the most frequent reservoir
  • Throat and oral cavity โ†’ less common but possible colonization site
  • Perineal and gastrointestinal tract โ†’ some carriers have it in the gut
Fun Fact: In the environment, S. aureus can persist on surfaces, clothing, and medical equipment for days to weeks because of its resilience.

How to Avoid Staphylococcus aureus Infections

  • Clean surfaces regularly โ†’ especially in kitchens, bathrooms, hospitals
  • Cook food properly โ†’ prevent toxin formation from contaminated food
